Echoworx to Offer Verizon’s Small- and Medium-Sized Business Customers More Encryption Products

Email and document encryption helps businesses prevent against data loss and leaks

17 June 2008

Echoworx announced today that Verizon Online will provide Secure DOX, which encrypts documents, to its small- and medium-size business customers. Verizon Online plans to offer its small- and medium-sized business customers a bundled service of email and document encryption later this year.

Small businesses are often unable to rely on an internal IT department, but want access to tools that will allow them to safeguard important data, such as intellectual property, customer records, contracts, human resource files, and highly sensitive negotiations. Businesses that subscribe to these encryption services will have access to the best tools in data security services that are all fully outsourced and managed with no impact to a company’s infrastructure.

“Small- and medium-size businesses are concerned about protecting their data assets and are limited to choices since most do not have the IT staff of large enterprises to manage the complexity involved with encryption services,” said Michael Ginsberg, President and CEO of Echoworx. “These important desktop encryption solutions offer SMB companies a series of important services to help ensure safeguarding data at every level.”

Verizon Online currently offers its small- and medium-size business customers Verizon Secure Mail, email encryption software, powered by Echoworx. Echoworx encryption services are based on industry trusted and enterprise tested encryption standards (PKI, X.509, S/MIME). Echoworx products are suited for businesses that have to adhere to government compliance, and businesses that have remote employees where data should be secured at all times in case of loss or theft.

The email encryption service verifies and authenticates that the message has not been altered, allows it to be opened only by the intended recipient, and allows users to lock e-mail that they receive so it cannot be viewed by others. The document encryption service allows the user to encrypt files and folders and set permissions on who can access, read, and write to the file or folder enforcing security policies. All of Echoworx encryption products are simple to use. A user registers for the services, and downloads a single plug-in for Secure Mail to encrypt email and Secure DOX to encrypt their data.

Both email and document encryption services help small- and medium-size businesses better protect the privacy of their data, whether it’s being sent by email, on a device such as a USB key, or stored on the network.
