LEADING LAW FIRMS, HEALTHCARE PROVIDERS CHOOSE ECHOWORX SECURE MAIL ENTERPRISE EDITION
Feb 6, 2006
San Francisco, CA - RSA February 6, 2006 – Echoworx Corporation, a leading provider of security software products for digital communications, is taking a lead in helping Enterprise Edition customers -- such as top medical associations, healthcare providers and law firms -- tackle one of the most critical issues facing businesses today: ensuring secure online communications. The company announced new customers that have adopted Echoworx Secure Mail, a simple, cost-effective end-to-end email encryption solution currently offered by service providers such as AT&T, Rogers, Tiscali, USA.NET and Verizon. Echoworx Enterprise Edition customers include: Baker & McKenzie, Davies Ward Phillips & Vineberg, Perry & Partners, Janus Health Networks, Medical Association of District Columbia, and Sweetwater Hospital.
Data breaches are becoming more prevalent and privacy legislation is causing law firms and healthcare professionals across the country to be more concerned than ever about maintaining the confidentiality of their digital communications. Law firms can no longer rely on disclaimers at the bottom of an email to protect client privacy. In fact, a recent survey of 500 corporate IT departments, conducted by the Ponemon Institute, found that 81 percent of respondents had experienced a lost or stolen laptop or portable storage device, which contained confidential information. Law firms and healthcare professionals are realizing they need to protect themselves by putting privacy policies in place that include email encryption among other security best business practices.
K. Edward Shanbacker, Executive Vice President of MSDC states, “The Echoworx Secure Mail Enterprise Edition provides District physicians with a branded solution for email encryption that we can offer our membership. It’s important to our membership that we bring to their attention services that can benefit their practice, which is why we have listed Secure Mail as a Medical Society Services endorsed product that our members can purchase right from our website. In order to comply with legislation and ensure patient confidentiality, we believe email encryption has become an important requirement for the way healthcare professionals should communicate over the Internet.”
Theo Ling, Partner and Member of Information Technology/Communications group at Baker & McKenzie, notes “Lawyers should not be expected to build and maintain platforms for managing digital identities, nor should they be expected to establish customized secure email links with all of their clients. The cost is just too high, and the complexity of the task is just too great. Products like Secure Mail that require no upfront investment or ongoing management have got to be the solution. Clients and lawyers alike will benefit by this mass market approach to encrypting email.”
Michael Ginsberg, President and CEO of Echoworx notes that “Network and Internet security is a primary concern for businesses across the country. Encryption is an important requirement that is not only being mandated, but clients are beginning to demand it. In reference to healthcare, a recent study by Harris Interactive for The Wall Street Journal Online shows that 74% of patients would like to use email to communicate with their doctor. Echoworx Secure Mail for enterprises is being embraced by businesses because we deliver an end-to-end encryption solution that is easy to use and can be deployed very quickly at a very low cost.”
Ivaylo Nikolov, Director, Information Technology at Davies Ward Phillips & Vineberg added "Law firms constantly worry about email privacy for client communication. Echoworx has a fully outsourced solution that is easy to use, quick to implement and extremely cost effective. Clients do not require any additional software to read the message and do not have to deal with the dreaded encryption certificates. IT departments have the tools they need to easily manage and administer all users internally. It's a simple and efficient solution."
Secure Mail for enterprises is offered by Service Providers on a subscription basis. This PKI encryption solution is based on industry trusted standards (S/MIME, X.509) and allows Secure Mail users to send encrypted email to anyone, whether or not they are also subscribers. There is no need to exchange credentials or require non-subscribers to download specialized software or register for any service.
Secure Mail for enterprises is a fully managed solution. Monthly billing and provisioning is provided based on the number of Secure Mail users. Each user simply downloads a plug-in that provides the encryption function right on the desktop. A new “Secure” button will appear in the compose screen and the subscriber can begin to send encrypted email messages to anyone, including non-subscribers of the service. In addition, Secure Mail for enterprises delivers an intuitive Administration Console, which gives organizations the ability to easily manage and administer its Secure Mail users.
